   About Us

The Lake Mills Community Preschool & Daycare (LMCPD) is an independent center serving the needs of families in north central Iowa and southern Minnesota.  Established in October 1994, the administration and staff of LMCPD strive to provide safe, affordable, and quality preschool and daycare services.

LMCPD accepts full-time, part-time, and drop-in children
ages 6 weeks to 12 years.
The center is open year-round from 5:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m., Monday through Friday.

A few of the programs offered include:  daycare services for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years, preschool classes for 3, 4, and 5-year-old children offered 5 days a week, before and after school care for school age children, and special summer programming for preschool and school age children (complete with field trips, picnics, swimming at the local pool, and much more).

LMCPD is a non-profit agency and licensed by the State of Iowa, Department of Human Services.  They are also active participants in the State of Iowa's Department of Education Child and Adult Care Food Program.  The center is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and led by a Center Director and two On-Site Supervisors.

History of the Center
The Lake Mills Community Preschool & Daycare was established in October 1984.  The daycare started out being an employer sponsored center named the Fleetguard Child Care Center.  It was originally open to serve the needs of the families who worked at Fleetguard, Inc.  In 1989, Fleetguard decided to open the doors of the child care center to the public.

In the fall of 2000, Fleetguard/Nelson, Inc. realized the need for a community based daycare center and in January 2001, the center changed it's name to reflect the vision of serving all of the children in the community.

In 2002, LMCPD expanded it's facility to provide preschool classrooms and an area especially for the school age children.  They have plans to remodel the remainder of the facility and are currently raising funds to finish the rest of the building project.

The Cummins Corporation remains the center's largest supporter in the Lake Mills Community.  They provide the center with numerous in-kind donations as well as financial support to provide employee benefits like health insurance.  The administration, staff, and Board of Directors greatly appreciates all of the support they receive from Cummins!!

Iowa Quality Rating Scale

In the fall of 2010, the Lake Mills Community Preschool & Daycare was
recognized by the Iowa Quality Rating System (QRS) as a 3-star center.

The QRS is designed to assure quality care of children based on standards set by the Iowa Department of Human Services.  Categories are state licensing, certification from the Bureau of Food and Nutrition (USDA), Iowa Department of Public Health assessment and contracted agreement, staff training, and other staff matters, center self-assessment, health and safety certification through child record review and injury prevention checklist, along with many other factors.
