LMCPD Preschool Program * Purple Room
3 and 4-year-olds

In our purple room, we provide preschool classes Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for children ages 3 & 4. (Families may choose how many days each week they would like their child to attend preschool.)  The same classroom is open for daycare before and after preschool from 5:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.

Our school schedule runs the same as the Lake Mills Community School and activities are always planned for children on non-preschool days.  (If LMCS is 2 hours late or canceled due to weather, our classes are always canceled for the day.)

We hire qualified staff!!  Our 3-year-old teacher, Kay, has been working at LMCPD for 1 year and has her BA in Elementary Education.  She is currently taking classes to update her teaching license.  Her assistant, Nancy, has worked at LMCPD for 25 years and has a genuine love for children.  All of our staff are also trained in CPR, First Aid, Child Abuse Reporting, and Child Development.  They are committed to quality care and strive to meet the needs of the children and their families.

We follow the Creative Curriculum in our classrooms.  This is a center based curriculum and therefore we offer the following centers in our classroom:  dramatic play, library and writing, art, blocks, computer, games and puzzles, cooking, and music.

Nutritious snacks are provided during preschool class and are reviewed by the Department of Education's Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).  Morning snack is prepared on-site by our cook and each week's menu ensures proper vitamin content and limited sugar.  For children attending the center before and after preschool, we also provide breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack.  All of the meals we provide are free of charge.

We provide positive discipline that considers the developmental level of the child, teaches the children that they must be responsible for their own actions, and agrees that each child is a precious and important person who needs to feel good about him/herself.

Daily activities include:  circle time (calendar, weather, show and tell, patterns, counting, etc.), center time (free play, literacy activities, art, etc.) songs, finger plays, and games.  We also spend time each day participating in large motor activities.  We have a wonderful playground located right outside our classrooms as well as an indoor gym to run in when it is too wet or cold to be outside.

During the summer months, our children enjoy the same familiar routine of circle time, center time, songs, finger plays, games, and large motor activities.  We also take one field trip per week to an area park to play and enjoy a picnic as well as swimming at the Lake Mills Aquatic Center twice a week (weather permitting).
